There are three primary macronutrients your body uses for energy... protein, fats and carbohydrates. Your body naturally tends to burn glucose from carbs as it's main source... but when it lacks sufficient carbs, it will shift to burning fats. This process is called Ketosis. A byproduct of this transformation is Ketones... which is a high energy fuel source (particularly for your brain)!
